Monona County is located in West Central Iowa, along the Missouri River.
The seat and largest city are both Onawa. Monona county borders Woodbury, Crawford and Harrison Counties in Iowa, as well as Burt and Thurston Counties in Nebraska.
Main highways include I-29, IA-37, IA-141, IA-175 and IA-183.
